Probably because we removed the swap file. What pi version do you have?

Yip, thanks Koenkk. I've got the 256MB Revision 1 board. My 512 pi is due in a couple of days, so I'll know for sure. But I believe you've hit the spot. If I monitor the cach during streaming HD I see it slowly rise to around 37MB this is where it crashes.

Guess we'll just have to reserve Alpha4 for our new board.

Thanks for your time and effort.

Hi

Does this mean that
1 - Alpha 5 will have to be optimized (and put back the swap) so that it works with 256's PI
2 - xbian will no longer support 256mb pies ( Smile )

What will it be? 1 or 2?
I'm still using a 256 pi and never had any problems...
can you try changing the gpu_mem_256=128
I have a similiar issue! How to set the gpu_mem ?
By editing /boot/config.txt

(Can also be done in windows)

Thanks, i've managed to do it. However, it seems not to have helped.. but my problem is a bit different however. When I start a movie, xbmc will crash shortly after, although the system runs fine in the background (switches to "terminal view", with messages from other applications)

edit: and i can't find logs to the crash in ~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log

edit2: however, found this in dmesg:

Code:
[  161.491454] Out of memory: Kill process 2544 (xbmc.bin) score 303 or sacrifice child
[  161.491477] Killed process 2544 (xbmc.bin) total-vm:316972kB, anon-rss:36152kB, file-rss:1084kB

try to enable Debugging under System>Settings>System and than replicate your error
After you should be able find informations in log
Please Do not post raw output from log here ! Always use service such pastebin and post just link here
-thx-
Do you run additional programs besides XBMC?

Also, try adding a swap file:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/var/swapfile bs=1024 count=128000
mkswap /var/swapfile
swapon /var/swapfile
echo -e '/var/swapfile\t\t\t\tswap\t\tswap\tdefaults\t\t\t0\t0' >> /etc/fstab
Funny enough, it now works (it crashed 6 times before...) . I'll report if it happens again.
