I have a feeling that it is a dynamic download - in that it downloads the image, writes to the SD card and then deletes the image. This way you will always install the latest version.

You will have to reformat the computer before placing another OS on it.
And also check if the computer can handle that OS.

I don't know if this changed in a more recent release of the installer, but the file is actually downloaded and maintained on the computer at
