Hi all,

(see my profile for setup info).

My pi downstairs is used mainly for music and streaming internet radio. It can stream for 24 hours or more and then stops. At this point I can't get my tablet running Yatse XBMC remote to connect any more although SSH access is as normal.

I have been rebooting the Pi to get out of this, but this last few weeks I have found that stopping XBMC service, waiting a few seconds and then restarting clears the problem and Yatse can connect again.

It seems totally random to me. Any ideas on how to track down whats happening here? Anyone else noticing similar behaviour?

Cheers!

I don't use Yatse that often but if I remember correctly it needs zeroconf.

From your problem that would be my first place to look - can you see the RPi from a PC when Yatse can't?

I would have a look at dmesg and xbmc.log to see if there is anything unusual there
Thanks Iridium,

If it needed zeroconf would it work for days without it and then suddenly not work? It's not been needed before and worked OK under Xbian beta1.1.

Here's something I found in the XBMC log that might be relevant?

08:45:32 T:2898965568 ERROR: EXCEPTION Thrown (PythonToCppException) : -->Python callback/script returned the following error<--

What do you make of that? Smile

Skywatch
for the python error, comment the line 19 of translation.py (add a # at begining of the line)
i think problem is only on frodo and not on gotham,
but it's just a print, so nothing important.
but it's have probably no relation with yatse.

i've also more or less the same problem,
if i reboot my fai box while xbmc is running, i've to restart the raspberry to have the network up again (ethernet).
but i did'nt check more, as i i've no keyboard attached to the pi.
on an RC2 (or RC1 updated) to latest packages on the stable repo
Thanks for that Belese, much appreciated Smile

I have made the change and can only see what happens now and if the issue is fixed. That could take a few days to fathom out. The other three files would be OK left as they are or should I also comment the lines out in those too?

Cheers

Skywatch
no others should be ok, it's the same error.
OK, I made the change to the python script and left the others unchanged.

I also removed all the video addons to clean the pi as it's headless and used only for audio.

I logged in with Yatse and connected. Selected tunein radio and then selected the program stream. All that is OK.

But, the volume control and transport 'stop' button won't function. This is odd!

New update!!!!!

I upgraded (after a fashion) to Xbian RC2 and now it all seems to work again.

I'll see how it goes for a week and then if no probs will change this thread to 'solved' !

Cheers

Update 2!

Well, it seemed quite promising at first, but the problem remains.

After a while the streaming radio stops randomly and never restarts. At this point Yatse can't access the pi (red indicator) and yet I can still get in via SSH.

Once ssh'd in I can issue sudo service xbmc stop and then sudo service xbmc start and wait for it to boot up and it seems to work again.

This behaviour seems to be RC related as it was stable during the beta releases.

Update 3 !

After upgrading to Gotham it has been stable and responsive for the last 24 hours. Still streaming and still responding to Yatse.

Will keep monitoring the situation.

After 3 days it's happened again and here's the last entries in the XBMC.log which might mean something to some clever person out there......

That's the last lines in the 'old' log and after this I need to restart XBMC and it all works again. RC2 and XBMC13 are better than RC1 and XBMC12 in this respect, but still it's an issue.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

Skywatch
Do you have an auto library updater running? Library Updater

If so what time does it kick in? Try disabling it, and see if that improves things.

Also, disable all add-ons (apart from the one used) and see if that helps.
That's an idea Iridium.

Problem is that it's a headless install and every time I need to do things like this I have to lug a monitor down 2 floors and back again. One day I hope XBMC will be fully configurable via ssh!

skywatch

XBMC auto updater now uninstalled. Lets see if this is the cure!

skywatch
Why not use vnc? It's not the fasted but saves time lugging a monitor around!!!
Hmmm... Is VNC installed in Xbian?

If so which would be the best client for W7?

Cheers

Skywatch

I tried to install tightvncserver on the pi, but had an issue to do with the fonts.

Will look into it tomorrow as I don't have any more time now.
