Full Version: Can not boot after rpi-update

Hello,

today I tried to update the rpi firmware in order to solve the problem of slow wifi speed. Some people wrote that this helped them.
Anyway, the "new" problem that I´m facing now is that my xbian only boots in the boot console and stops with "sh: can't access tty: job control turned off". It seams that it can not find the mmcblk0p2 partition.

Can anyone help me in this case?
I really had configured my xBrain fully to my needs and it would be a petty to start again with a fresh install. Sad

unfortunately you broke the install yourself - rpi-update is not only updating firmware - it is replacing kernel, device drivers, boot conf files. and of course incompatible with a system not raspbian (and RaspBMC).

the good info is, that XBian itself is for sure in 100% condition, your RPI just can't boot.
download manually last kernel pkg, unpack it, put boot files into your SD card and boot into XBian.
then (to be 100% safe) just reinstall kernel as it should :
Code:
apt-get install --reinstall xbian-package-kernel

xbian is releasing RPI firmware updates via pkg xbian-package-firmware, last version is 1.9.0 from Dec-29 2014.
Yes, worked instantly.
I'll drive a full test tomarrow and let you know if something fails.

Thanks and greetings,

Cuba
