I am trying to install xbian to my 4GB memory card!
I have extracted the files to the micro card and now I don't know what to do!
On the site it says

Linux

Download here, extract the file and run.

And in the read me file it says
Open a terminal and run the following commands:

chmod +x XBian-installer
sudo ./XBian-installer

shall I do this while standing in the memory card?

Do I get this right now?
I extract the files into the micro card on the Raspberry and then write
chmod +x XBian-installer
sudo ./XBian-installer
in a terminal in the Raspberry?
Do I need to install Noob or is it ok with RaspEX

The easiest way is to download Windows installer and select what kind of OS you want to install.
As I can see for Linux is also the installer, so you download to you local computer, extract and run it from your computer hdd (not from memory card), then it should guide you through installer (the installer wants to download an image and format/install correctly files on the memory card that you will have to provide in the installer).
I finally chose Rasbian and omxplayerGUI.

Whatever works for your needs.
I should have persisted with xbian!

I found a image and am now running xbian/Kodi.
Kodi is sooo good!

Glad to see you back Wink
I have now used Kodi some time. It is great fo watching video files on a HDD.
There is still a few things that annoy me.
The time is 2 hours off, how do I set that?
When I use apps like Svt-play it freezes every 1 or 2 minutes, sometimes also on Youtube and other stuff.
Is it possible to use VPN (pay for UNBLOCKVPN to appeare to be somewhere else).
Or can I change the IP number to appere to be in the UK?
I saw that an app for iplayer was not working anymore. Pity
Is it possible to surf with Kodi? To watch for example, free streams?

Login to your Pi via SSH with user xbian/raspberry and lookup date time zone settings in the "xbian-config" tool that starts automatically.
EDIT: or exit Kodi to get to the BASH login prompt.

Your power supply might be inadequate or poor cabling.
Especially when using a USB WiFi dongle its important to have 2 Ampere or more.
USB Hard disk drives will need to have their own power supply or you can use a powered USB hub to supply power to the Pi as well as to the USB hard disk drive.

XBian is based on Raspbian so you can use all the "deb" packages that are available on the repositories or compile from source.

An app is available for Kodi to surf the web like a browser.
Not sure if will work with free streams.
