Full Version: Steps from FAQ regarding repo update breaks Gotham

If you follow the steps in the FAQ to fix the repository issues with brantje.com on xbian v1.0B2 Gotham, it will result in an unbootable installation...

3. Then run these command:
apt-get update; apt-get install --reinstall lsb-release xbian-package-repo; apt-get update
and you're done correcting the APT repository list. After this finishes you can again use any of the usual ways to update your XBian installation.

When you run that command, you get a warning from apt:

You are about to do something potentially harmful.
To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'

If you type 'Yes, do as I say!' it proceeds to make a ton of changes:

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
apt-show-versions autofs exfat-fuse exfat-utils fontconfig-config ir-keytable libaacs0 libafpclient0 libapt-pkg-perl libass4 libbluetooth3

Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following extra packages will be installed:
f2fs-tools ipcalc schedtool xbian-package-config-shell xbian-package-xbianhome xbian-package-xbmc-scripts
The following packages will be REMOVED:
update-notifier-common xbian-package-config-xbmc xbian-package-xbmc xbian-package-xbmc-gotham-nightly xbian-update
The following NEW packages will be installed:
f2fs-tools ipcalc schedtool xbian-package-repo xbian-package-xbianhome
The following packages will be upgraded:
xbian-package-config-shell xbian-package-xbmc-scripts
WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed.
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
xbian-update update-notifier-common (due to xbian-update) xbian-package-xbmc (due to xbian-update)
2 upgraded, 5 newly installed, 5 to remove and 4 not upgraded.
Need to get 890 kB of archives.
After this operation, 84.3 MB disk space will be freed.


and then the system will no longer boot.

Fun times! Someone should update the FAQ with a warning at least... Even better would be to provide the proper steps for Gotham
