After some work I was able to have a full syslog system on my previous alpha 4 with /var mounted in tempfs in ram.
Now I upgraded to alpha 5 and syslog was removed and if I try to install it again I get a scary message from atp.
How do I get syslog back?

By enabling it in xbian-config --> services.
