Hello

I'm trying to set up the following configuration.

Having xbmc outputting video on hdmi and
mpd outputting audio on analog

So in xbmc I've configured it to use hdmi output, no problem.

But i cannot get any sound from mpd.

Well i cannot event figure out how to configure mpd.conf output bloc.
I've tried to use an alsa or a pusleaudio output but nothing coming out.

So is this possible? how to configure mdp audio output?

Thanks
You can't because XBMC for the pi doesn't support AudioEngine. If you want sound over hdmi and analog please set audio output to all in the XBMC settings.
So let's say i want to ouput mpd output anywhere it is possible.
How am i suposed tu configure mod audio output?
That impossible atm (it will be once the xbmc team adds AE to xbmc for the pi).

Where you not discussing "crackling" audio on mpd with curlymoo here :

https://github.com/xbianonpi/xbian/issues/175

Anyway i'm able to send sound to output using aplay, so i guess it is possible with mpd, is it not?
Koenkk? you still there ?
Yes, sorry. As you see it never worked (that issue was solved by a firmware upgrade).
Hum, may be i didn't explained myself right.

I've read the issue discussion , and wahtever the bug was, it seems to me you were sucessfully using mpd with a certain configuration.
Right now i don't care of seperate audio ouput, it is not possible for now.

But are you telling me that it is not possible at all to get any sound out of mpd on xbian?

I've tried to use standard alsa et standard pulseaudio, but nothing working for now.

So is there a way to configure mpd to actually work and send sound to any raspberry audio output.
regarding the alsa

http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5543&start=150 and I just go to quote popcornmix from that thread

Quote:Not something I will support. omxplayer plays the audio from the GPU. It has no knowledge of USB or linux or alsa.

It would be possible to disable the openmax audio and just use omplayer for the video decode. Then some completely new code could support ALSA audio output from the ARM.
It would be pretty difficult to get audio and video in sync, and not drifting, and to synchronise the play/pause/seek messages. Possible, but someone who wants the feature will have to do the work.
Well thanks for explanation.

So the audio is handled by the GPU.

IS it possible to configure mpd so it sends sound to the GPU ?

What if a buy an external sound card ? i should be able to use it with mpd ( not in xbmc homever).
Where do you want to connect the external audio soundcard to?
USB, is there other way ?
USB won't work because we don't support AudioEngine..
Hum, I'm sorry, i don't fully understand. AudioEngine is an xbmc software. It is an layer avec XBian.

So let's say i use XBian WITHOUT starting xbmc,
Will i be able to access raspberry pi audio analog or hdmi output ?
Will i be able to access an USB audio output ?
XBian is a fine tuned XBMC based on lightweight an modified/customised Raspbian.
A lot of bits and tits have been removed ir moded same as kernel,etc...
So if you want something else than XBMC than this is simply not for you.
An as I mentioned before, until XBMC officialy add the Alsa support we not going to support it either Wink
-thx-
