Ok tried to update to Alpha 5 and still the same problem.
Finally managed to get the debug log to pastebin ( no easy task for someone knowing nothing about linux ) so excuse the long debug log because it was running the whole time.

Relevant warning is at line 778 and actually says

So it seems it's unsupported but it's a MMPEG-4, DIV3.

I do have the extra mpeg/vc licenses.
Is there a list of supported ( or unsopported ) codecs lying around somewhere?
