How to choose External Enclosure (hard drive) - electronicfan - 6th Dec, 2013 01:45 PM

A company that makes external enclosures told me that people have perception that a fan is necessary for an enclosure and that they only still make enclosures with fans to keep from losing customers to competitors.

I want to purchase an external enclosure for my hard drive and run powerful software on it. Does anyone have opinions regarding having a fan or no fan?

Will not having a fan but having a good aluminum heat dissipation ruin my hard drive/lower the number of years that drive will last?

I am interested in the new Superspeed HDD External Enclosure. Any opinions on the Inateck enclosure brands?

Can you explain how this relates to Xbian?

Thanks for your attention.
I need one drive to transport my pictures, but I don't know how to choose.
