Recommended memory cards - Aweponken - 1st Apr, 2014 11:06 PM
Hello,
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I couldn't find a proper one under the hardware-tab.
Anyway, I have a 16GB SanDisk SD card which is working like crap due to this problem.
So I need to change my SD-card and I just wanted to know if you have any ideas of what to buy?
Many of you guys use class 4 or 6, is it a lot slower than class 10?
I will mainly listen to music, watch HD-movies and control pilight.

Also, a better idea would be to only have /boot on an SD-card and run the rest from an USB-stick.

The class 10 blue ones are better than the class 10 black ones. All sizes are evenly good.

Personally I have had no problems with Verbatim, Kingston or Sandisk. I use micro 2G, 4G and 16G class 4, 6 and 10 and have not had any problems. I have also, not noticed any real difference between a class 4 and a class 10 but I only use Xbian as a media player nothing else.

The difference between class 4 and 10 can be huge. Especially noticeable when developing on the RPi. Running ldconfig takes about 6 seconds on a class 4 and about 2 seconds on a class 10.

I've been using transcend class 10 cards (4GB & 8GB) and they have been stable and fast. No problems.
Try and avoid the cheaper 'no name' cards and test one you get as there are a lot of fakes on the market (especially from certain online sites)

I alway run my MAIN machine on USB, my TV machine on SD and development on whatever. Never had a problem on either SD or USB but as @Skywatch says stick to a good name.

Okay, I'll try with a USB-stick then, I got one lying around anyway. I have some trouble with making the USB bootable, but I'll put that in the right forum/thread.
