What is the difference between the "official" win32diskimager raspberry pi installation method and the xbian installer ? What additional features are needed to copy the image ?

Not much, the xbian installer is easier to use.

Answer to title: yes (we used this tool when the XBian installer was not there yet).

I'll stick to the xbian installer then, since there is a funny bug with win32imagewriter: https://bugs.launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+bug/985080 - C: with windows 7 partition erased with all data
