XBMC tagging foreign languages - syco - 26th Dec, 2014 07:38 PM

Hi guys,

In my XBMC database 90% of the movies are
English, but the last 10% are original languages
like German or Spanish. Sometimes I even have
the same movie twice because of wanting to
have both languages.

If I add them normally, they will just appear in
the list with the standard information, even when
having different (original language's) file names.

Here an example:

US: Silver Linings Playbook.avi
DE: Silver Linings.avi

But the scraper will just see the English description
and add it, which is fine. I do not mind that.

So, how can I see, if I have a movie in English or
a different language in my list? Is there ANY way?

Of course, I know XBMC can not "hear" the different
language, but is there a way, that I tag those films
somehow, so when scrolling to the list with my app
I can see there a small icon or anything like that?

Thank you in advance.

cant you just have all your german versions with german titles and than use some german scraper to add relevant info?

Good question i also never found a solution for. XBMC just lists all non-English movie titles by their English names.

Alright, a new scraper, BUT as far as I know, I can only
use one Scraper on one segment like Uniscraper for
"movies".

Or is it possible to have two scrapers on one segment?
Will not that lead to doubles?

... and btw, I do not need German or Spanish movie
information. I just need something like on the screen
saying:

Fight Club
Gran Torino (DE) or (German) or * (for non-English)
Kill Bill
Killing Zoe (FR) or (French) or *
Napola (DE) or (German) or *
Superman
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (ES) or (Spanish) or *
Zodiac

Something like in the picture here.

@CurlyMo I know what you mean but not sure if anything like that is possible cos scrapers only lookup all the info by the title, it not checking the content or type of the audio. not sure if even possible cos very often you have BD titles with multi audio containing sometime 3 or more audio streams.
regarding the scrapers, yes you can have multi scrapers added and should works seamlessly if you have titles named properly

I would simply place all my alternative language movies in one folder and use the alternative language scraper on that location, place all English movies in one place and have an English scraper for that location. Easiest way IMO.

yes, you can do. but you still need to use titles in appropriate language and than it doesnt really matter where the files are located Wink

Just want the names and descriptions to be in the alternative language right? I don't think a German scraper would put the movie names and descriptions in English.

*Edit*

Missed what they really wanted which isn't possible that I know of.

yes, if your title of the movie is in german and you use german scraper than you should have all in german, thumbnails, movie informations, etc...
than in the same time if you have a same movie in english, with english title scraped with english sraper like IMDB than you should have two separate items in your library even they are stored in same location.
It should work like this

RE: XBMC tagging foreign languages - syco - 27th Dec, 2014 08:13 PM

The problem is, the German (or other languages') names of the
movies are often the same. Here some examples:

Vicky Cristina Barecelona (same in Spanish and German)
Silver Linings Playbook (Silver Linings in German)
...

So, I do not care about foreign languages information or
titles. I just need those films tagged somehow, e.g. with
an asterisk by the file name or so.

Even if I would have to tag them manually, I would not mind.
It should just be shown in XBMC in the movies list or when
watching per Yatse throuth the list.

RE: XBMC tagging foreign languages - f1vefour - 27th Dec, 2014 08:21 PM

I think you will have to name the movies in the language, otherwise you will simply have to manually change the titles once scraped.

English - Silver Linings Playbook
German - Silberstreifen Textbuch

RE: XBMC tagging foreign languages - syco - 27th Dec, 2014 08:30 PM

Hm, that is not a really good solution,
as it takes of the point of giving proper
names, anyway.

Maybe I am going with using a different
directory and different scraper for this
directory only.

But still I was hoping, there is something
like a tagging possibility ... a simple asterisk
or some shit by the name would help so
much ... and I guess, there is no other
distro that found a solution for that. I searched
the web, but could not find anyone having
found a working way to have that.

Do the movies have dual language audio tracks or are they in german, spanish..etc only?

I dont quite understand why would you have the same movie in multiple languages?
