RE: XBMC doesn't start anymore after upgrade - hlantz - 28th Apr, 2015 03:03 AM

Hi, I too have the same symptoms.

Software
XBian version: Installed "Latest xbian stable" using installer, then upgraded through XBMC GUI
XBMC/Kodi version: Hard to say, since I can't access it
Overclock settings: -

Hardware
Device type and model: Raspberry Pi B 512 MB
Power supply rating: 1100mA
SD card size and make/type: Sandisk Mobile Ultra SDHC I 4GB
Network (Ethernet or wireless): Wireless
Connected devices (TV, USB, network storage, ...): Sony Bravia TV (HDMI w/ CEC), Dlink DWA121 N150 Wifi dongle, Sandisk Cruzer Blade 16GB USB stick

Log files
Link to logfile(s): dmesg is at http://pastebin.com/SX9qMim4
(kodi.log is not updating at reboot, the last update is from yesterday afternoon before the upgrade.)

Problem description:
On boot, I get the xbian splash screen going through "starting network", "network started", then "starting xbmc..." for a while before the screen goes into text mode, reading:

XBian GNU/Linux 7 xbian tty1

[ ok login [....] Setting preliminary keymap...done.
[ ok ] Setting up X socket directories... /tmp/.X11-unix /tmp/.ICE-unix.

...and that's where it stops.

How to reproduce:
I installed a fresh xbian latest stable and used it perfectly fine for a couple of days, I even ran a previous upgrade cycle which worked fine. On Sunday night I again checked the updates page and there was one package that was available. I chose to upgrade that one too, and OKed a reboot when prompted, and since then I've not seen the kodi desktop. :-) I can still SSH to it, and it sucessfully runs SAMBA to my local network so I can browse the contents of the USB disk from my phone, and it's mounted and copied files from a Win7 share. It seems like it's just kodi that's not playing nicely.

Before yesterday's upgrade I also tried installing a couple of add-ons from the kodi repository - the SVTPlay one and the TED Talks one (both stuck at 0% downloading) as well as the Back Row skin (stuck at 97% downloading).

Anything else I can contribute here, please let me know.

EDIT: I did try the regoffset / regvalue trick mentioned in this thread earlier - it did not make a difference.

Same problem here!

- Fresh install from 28.11 img
- was able to install anything needed (skin, addons..) and scan library with success
- Updated to latest packages through xbian-config
- Stuck on boot in a loop with the same message
Terminal
[ ok login [....] Setting preliminary keymap...done.
[ ok ] Setting up X socket directories... /tmp/.X11-unix /tmp/.ICE-unix.
screenshot
- still able to ssh in
- xbmc service starts but closes after a little: kodi.log
- dmesg pastebin
