No, unfortunately no idea Sad

- Which kernel ?
- OMX/MMAL Player ?
- Sound pass through?

I'm running 4.14.71 on my old Pi1, and having absolutely no issue playing 720p mkv's over WLAN network (SAMBA share)
(OMX, pass through)

I'm getting this in kodi log, when sound stutters:

Terminal

Kernel version - 4.14.72+
Sound pass through - disabled
MMAL player.

I haven't changed any audio settings, except Volume control steps.

OMX/MMAL you can find in Player setting, acceleration
Sound pass through: System setting, Audio

I edited info in previous post. Smile

Ok, what happens if you enable OMX, disable MMAL, enable pass through?

Does stuttering happens always or randomly?

RE: Choppy sound after upgrade - Dzintars Bergs - 2nd Oct, 2018 05:57 AM

It happens randomly, I haven't noticed any patterns.

I will try to change settings and see what happens.

RE: Choppy sound after upgrade - Nachteule - 2nd Oct, 2018 05:58 AM

Btw, I'm using MMAL only on Pi3(B+) because of not having MPEG2 license, but audio pass through is always enabled

And never noticed any stuttering there

Thanks for hints. I don't have any audio gliteches with OMX enabled, MMAL disabled and pass through enabled. Smile

Ok, sound good. So we come a bit closer to the problem Dodgy

I also have the random choppyy problem watching mkv on a RPI2 since a few kernel versions.
I can confirm MMAL disable and OMX enable solve the problem.

The PI is connected with HDMI through a Onkyo AV-Receiver.

RE: Choppy sound after upgrade - Nachteule - 10th Oct, 2018 08:11 AM

Hmmm, tested yesterday with a Pi3, latest kernel (4.14.74+), no sd-card (NFSROOT), no OMX, no sound pass trough, active VNC connection, Kodi debug logs enabled, files on SAMBA share:

Absolutely no sound issue while playing 720p mkv, AC3 5.1

Will see if I can find 1080p REMUX video with DTS, to see how this goes.

RE: Choppy sound after upgrade - Bastlwastl - 11th Oct, 2018 11:22 PM

After updating the kernel to 4.14.74+, the problem has gone.
Enable MMAL, all fine....

RE: Choppy sound after upgrade - Nachteule - 12th Oct, 2018 03:08 AM

@Bastlwastl

Thanks for reporting. I think, this PR, merged into 4.14.74+, did the trick Smile

I confirm, the problem is gone. :-)
