I mean going from single core to quad + 512 more Meg of RAM it will be night and day I imagine. Also opens the door for Windows 10, Ubuntu and possibly Android as well...and of course XBian Smile

Mr. Eben said it will run version of Win10 Smile

RE: RPi 2 Quad core.
It requires a new kernel (3.18.y), I have been working on it and am almost finished. I'm too tired currently and had to stop so I don't make mistakes, hopefully I can finish it up tomorrow.

Let's see if our still theoretically working image actually works in practice Wink

RE: RPi 2 Quad core.
I'm sure Windoze must be getting desperate now that Win8 was a failure and nobody in their right mind bought a Windoze phone. To try and get into, what is basically, a hobbyist market, shows a level of concern. Thankfully the Raspberry organisation is a charity, otherwise I'm sure Gates Inc. would have bought it by now - especially considering the amount of users.

However, the main issue I see is the lack of an onboard eMMC. I've played around with a BeagleBone Black (BBB) and the difference is frighting even though they have roughly the same configuration as a RPi B+.

The RPi 2 would be a comparison with the Cubox-i (Quad core) (CB) and as an HTMC it will be perfect, but as an O/S I have my doubts. I tried Ubuntu 12.4 on the CB and whilst it worked - it was hardly slick. The reason, wait I/O on the SD card.

Because the RPi 2 lacks a high speed eSATA or USB3 connection, there is little to be gained from a SSD or HDD.

However, I have been proved wrong before. But... from an Xbian point of view I think it will will be perfect, with enough power to run XBMC, Couchpotato, Sabnzb and torrents without breaking into a sweat. Only time will tell.

From articles read, it would seem that if we just have the new Kernel, all other packages should run fine without problems. It may be a little slow to begin with until tweaks and optimisation have been made, to allow for the downward compatibility.

Only time will tell.......

On another point, could it be possible to change the download website to reflect that the downloads are only for the RPi A, B and + models NOT the RPi 2. Ditto with the installer.

Once we have an RPi 2 - can those who have one, try the standard RPi image and report any issues, so the rest of use know what to look for when users report an issue.

In the UK and ordered from RS, at least the Pi is on route, the case is on back order till the 26th..

Maplin are now advertising them, quite how they have the cheek to ask for £40 for the bare board I don't know..
