Don't know what this could be, normally it automounts as rw. Can you post the output of mount?
Maybe you could try this:

sudo mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1 /media/usb0

Assuming your harddisk is on /dev/sda1 (check with sudo fdisk -l)
