Can you try:

Code:

sudo mode2

and see what the output is per key press.
You may need to stop lirc if you get an error about device /dev/lirc is busy

Code:

sudo lirc stop

Also can you try adding

Code:

<advancedsettings>

<remotedelay>10</remotedelay>

</advancedsettings>

to /home/xbian/.xbmc/userdata/advancedsettings.xml
and restart xbmc.

Terminal

sudo stop xbmc
sudo start xbmc
