Are you sure you have setup XBMC to use your remote?

In the past I never had to do anything. It 'just worked'. And I have nothing connected to my raspi's GPIO, the signal seems to get passed on to the raspi via the hdmi connection. And this since a quite early alpha release (cannot remember anymore which one, but could have been alpha 1).
