video size wrong and editing congig.txt has no effect

I got it!
in the video calabration gui I, very gingerly, fund the very edge of the bottom right over scan adj triangle.

wait, the gui is full screen but then i play a video it goes back to that smaller size when i stop the movie it goes back to the full/correct size.
I tried dropping the refresh rate but it blanks and goes back to 60.
I'll do some searching on this new issue
