I think the 'Alpha' name doesn't really fit the status as users think of it. I will explain the cycle (it's a guess as I am not someone who decides on this):
Alpha - Testing editions while we still add new features Beta - No new features allowed, only bugfixes RC - Could be a release version but should be tested by many before we are sure. If no bug are found, it is simply renamed to Final. If there is, another RC will see daylight. Final - Once a RC does not contain known bugs anymore. Our current 1.0 Alpha 4 is afaik already better than 0.8.3 Final. Still it misses some features we'd wilke to see included in 1.0 as 1.0 is gonna be our 'main pilar' when developing further. So all our 'main features' should be included in 1.0 already. |
