One thought - if you don't have a Micro$oft nobbled bios on your laptop, is to boot via USB/CD a live version of Ubuntu, install ffmpeg or handbrake there, do your conversions and shutdown the live image. That way you won't need to touch your Win10 setup. However, you'll have to repeat the process each time you have a bunch of files to convert.
