I've just tried the "same" on a cubox-i using the onboard BT and the latest image but the quality of the sound was even worse than the RPi at it's worse. I tried disabling the onboard wifi but didn't help
Looking at the solidrun website, seems to suggest that this is a known problem and hasn't really been resolved. Sensible solution stick to wired. It's better quality and works
