[SOLVED] Haupagge MCE Remote does not work

Do you just do something like

sudo apt-get remove lirc

and reboot? I have an older version of the same remote and it doesn't work either. This is the only thing stopping me from using Xbian (once I learned not to upgrade to the 4.4 kernel).
