I think it's an issue with the SD controller driver and the way it handles ECC (error correction) on the Pi with certain cards. It's why Gordon needs a card with this issue so he can attempt to fix the driver.

If you have access to a Windoze machine can you try:

1/ SDformatter - format the SD drive
2/ Win32diskimage - write the BETA 1.1 img file.

See if that works.

You could also try a SD card test program like:
http://mympx.org/Downloads/p13_sectionid/2/p13_fileid/13
I haven't tried it, so you are on your own on that one.

It seems to be the SD card that is at fault, not the RPi.

If it's a class 10 card, it might we worth buying a cheap 2gb class 4 for around £4 and see if that improves things.

I did this earlier, but after 4th reboot my RPi said that "Controller never released...." and after that I moved all my stuff to class4 microsd from my old Nokia.
OpenELEC don't have this problem with that sd card.
