HDMI audio splitter experience?

Hi, I’m considering to buy an HDMI audio splitter, since I don’t have a HDMI capable receiver.

My question is: are these boxes transparent to CEC commands? Because I use the TV remote to control Xbian (an old LG scheme which doesnt send the “back” and “menu” buttons).

I need analog stereo output. If anyone has had any experience about good or bad sound quality of the different brands, I would appreciate a note (and a link).
