MPEG2 software decoded on RPI2
Seems now that the RPI2 is capable of decoding mpeg2 with the software decoder.

RE: MPEG2 software decoded on RPI2
I'll answer myself:
Deactivating hardware acceleration makes rpi reproduce the dvb output without problem except for the deinterlacing effect. So maybe it is just a matter of saying to xbmc that mpeg2 is a software codec and "the rest" is a hardware accelerated. Does anyone know how to do that? RE: MPEG2 software decoded on RPI2
I have no issue software decoding SD content, I had to purchase the mpeg2 license to reliably decode HD content.

The Raspberry Pi 2 is capable of decoding MPEG2 with the software decoder. The software decoder uses the CPU to decode the video stream instead of a dedicated hardware decoder. This means that it will use more CPU resources and may not be able to decode high bitrate streams smoothly. If you’re using the Raspberry Pi 2 to watch MPEG2 videos and you’re experiencing issues with the hardware decoder, you can try using the software decoder instead. However, if you’re watching high bitrate videos or multiple videos at the same time, you may still experience issues with the software decoder. |
