That's also the whole point of the /opt/vc stuff. Libraries for using the Broadcom hardware directly.
Could anyone provide a link to a version of xbmc where joysticks are enabled so you can configure actions in ~/.xbmc/userdata/keymaps/joystick.map.xml? Seems like most of the distributions were compiled with joysticks disabled. Why is that I wonder: does it adversely affect other peripherals like remotes or mice?
Any help would be extremely appreciated.

our branch of frodo currently doesn't compile with --enable-joystick
gotham does, but is not available to XBian version prior Beta2.

Are gaming controllers compatible with XBMC in Gotham now?
I have seen lately Gotham build log containing SDLJoystick.cpp being compiled (although it wasn't explicitly enabled on ./configure). needs to be tested.
