How do you test a new version?
Hi folks. I was just wondering what most people do when it comes to trying out/testing a new version. Do you update your current install or keep a 'stable' version on one card and have a second for tinkering with new releases so if anything goes pear shaped, you have something to fall back onto?
Thanks Blackvenom |

Re: How do you test a new version?
I always keep a stable backup and test with a different card.

RE: How do you test a new version?
I don't test very much, so for me it's sufficient to create a complete image of my sd card:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ But as mk01 introduced the BTRFS filesystem, you can create different snapshots on your sd card and switch between them. See the beta2 thread, I think there were some according commands explained in the first posts. |

Creating an image of the SD card is a good plan though. I hadn't thought about that. Cheers folks |

RE: How do you test a new version?
I always run three versions.
1) A fresh install. Then add all the options. 2) An upgrade with all my settings and optional extras. 3) A stable version - just in case. (I still have my Alpha 5) That way you can test core functionality, upgrade path and your additions. In my experience, win32diskimager should create a backup but I've always had issues with restoring from it. I'm now trying version 0.9 to see if that improves anything. IMHO: The beta 1.2 upgrade should be pretty painless but ....... it's your pear tree :-) Please read before you post How to post a log file If you liked my help, click on "Thanks" to show your appreciation.
