RE: New Raspberry Pi firmware & XBMC Frodo RC3
I just pushed a new kernel + firmware. Users who want to use it, re-run the steps by Koenkk in post 1.

RE: New Raspberry Pi firmware & XBMC Frodo RC3
What are the fixes/benefits in the new update, except a new firmware version?

Edit: just took a quick look at the rpi-firmware git repo,so if i understand correctly ZRAM and RFKILL support is added.
So that raises 2 questions:

1. Does ZRAM make any noticable difference in performance on a 256MB Pi?
2. Is it enabled by default or should it be enabled somehow?

Greetz

@Phikal, according to rasperrypi/firmware git should fix a CEC issue (however it's unclear what CEC issue they are pointing at). It also fixes the XVID playback issues. (which happened when you used this thread/instructions earlier)

Thanks for the fast response.
Will try it out.

PS: i've updated my previous post, any thoughts on the ZRAM part of the (kernel) update?

Edit:

Just finished updating, the xvid issue i've described here xvid thread still exists.
So far no issues encountered, except my bogomips dropped again from 1100 to 750 but this isn't really an issue.

I upgraded it yesterday.
All upgrade process finished succesfully, and now I can see that XBMC Frodo RC3 is installed, but now a lot of videos are shown with out of phase sound and slow video.

With the previous version of XBMC the same videos were played without problems.

@The_Reaper can you retry the instructions? They are updated a few hours ago to include a newer firmware.

Hey
From the first post there is a git hard reset. Is that correct now after the new commits?

RE: New Raspberry Pi firmware & XBMC Frodo RC3
Hey guys
I've tested this now, with different video settings. Works flawless on the test files, and all similar files. Didn't find any errors in other formats either, so big thumbs up!
I'll keep testing other functions this evening.

Nice work, thanx for your hard effort, and please tell if I can help in any way Smile

@endo can you try downclocking your pi a little bit? (or even remove all overclocks)

RE: New Raspberry Pi firmware & XBMC Frodo RC3
@Koenkk i seem to have solved my problem

I bellieve it has to do with the "download package"(sickbeard, couchpotato, etc). After installing said package i had severe performance problems in xbmc, where the service would actually be killed, often within seconds of booting. I wasn't able to get a debug log, nor did it generate any crash report that i can find, however when i removed the download packages, my problems resolved themselves. as a note i have no overclock enabled, last time i did that i got a corrupted sdcard.

Would this perhaps be a ram issue, as i have the 256mb version?

Yes, those packages do not work well together with XBMC.
