Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix - Koenkk - 30th Jun, 2013 02:34 AM

OUTDATED, see: http://forum.xbian.org/thread-1077.html

NOTE: Advanced users only, start from a fresh Beta 1 image

What's currently fixed/done or improved (will keep this updated)
  • xbian-package-config shell dialog issue
  • libtiff4 issue
  • libmad issue
  • added ir binaries executable bit
  • initramfs packaging tool
  • Fix frandom & urandom (Fatal: no entropy gathering module detected when
    starting XBMC)
  • bootorder, mysql has to start before XBMC, also mounts have to be finished (both local and NFS)
  • rpcbind not started
  • USB HDD mounting issues

To do
  • Cronjob or time not correct, causing XBMCbackup to backup after every reboot

How to install it
Code:
sudo su
stop xbmc
echo "deb http://**********ist.asuscomm.com:82/XBian/APT/ wheezy main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get install xbian-update

If you want to help, feel free to do pull requests on our github Smile

RE: Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix - DexterBelgium - 1st Jul, 2013 05:54 AM

Tried it just now, got
Code:
W: Failed to fetch http://dikonist.asuscomm.com:82/XBian/APT/dists/wheezy/Release.gpg  Could not connect to dikonist.asuscomm.com:82 (88.159.202.11). - connect (111: Connection refused)

can ping the dikonist.asuscomm.com domain from the Pi just fine, so I'm thinking it might be the port?

You should be able to link frandom/erandom to random/urandom then start/restart any process that uses the nodes.

I must add: seems not to be fixing the SMB issue..
(see: here)

This morning I applied the hotfix and it worked. However when I just did a sudo apt-get update and upgrade I got the following error: http://pastebin.com/tSd3p9tm

Did you apply this on a fresh Beta 1 image?

@ilgrank Are you running a fresh install of B1 or an upgrade? I'm running Beta 1 + and I have no problem with SMB via the GUI.

It was quite fresh Wink

I downloaded it already a couple of days a go and I've only installed the Download Package #3 and changed some settings in XMBC and Xbian.

Hi
I'm using a fresh install of the 'base' B1, the one released some day ago. I've still not tried using the updated one (hotfix) since it was released just hours ago and I'm at work right now Smile

@ilgrank This thread is called "Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix" for "Beta 1" problems use http://forum.xbian.org/thread-1031.html

Bug 1 hotfix. So far.

Installed to SD card from latest xbian installer.
Updated as per instructions.
Installed package nmon for my testing.

Within XBMC update shows 2 libcurl packages can be updated. Should they be updated for this fix?

In xbian-config shell.
Changing autostart of xbian-config & change overclocking. Msg is without spaces.
Update mirrors. Shows error. Command not found
Packages. Returns error. Then awk syntax error.

Xbmc.log
Clearblock: Already on Github https://github.com/xbianonpi/xbian/issues/389
ERROR: COMXImage::ReadFile special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/a/ae74f174.jpg not found
ERROR: Texture manager unable to load file: /home/xbian/.xbmc/temp/weather/30.png

XBMC:

Inserting a USB stick. Shows up in “df –h” and System Info. But cannot be seen with Videos -> Files nor via “Add Source” or File Manager. Rebooting with USB inserted did not solve the issue but restarting xbmc did.
Rebooting with a standard overclock didn't make a difference.

Plugging in a powered USB drive shows up in xbmc "Removable media mounted".
Rebooted with drives still attached. Did not show up.

Will continue to test and see what else I can find but the USB issue needs to be looked at.

--------------------------------- Update 30-06-2013 ------------------------
I applied fix https://github.com/xbianonpi/xbian/issues/397 but the USB not showing up was still there.
Installed the 2 libcurl packages. All went OK. Restarted xbmc and they were back again.

I think xbmc is starting before the ntp server has done it's bit. This is why the time and date are wrong when xbmc first starts. Also I believe this is causing a proglem with xbmc-backup because the time is "before" it's last backup and so runs after each boot.

--------------------------------- Update 01-07-2013 --------------------------
If you get a USB to mount and be visible, right click on that drive and select "safely remove device". It does not work. In Alpha5 you would get a message saying it is safe to remove, and the drive would be unmounted. In this, the drive remains mounted. If you pull the USB drive out of the hub you get "Successfully removed the device" whereas before it was Unsafe device removal.

Plugging it back in, the drive gets mounted by no message from within xbmc.

I've also noticed that after an xbmc restart (Stop then start) /boot seems to be permantly mounted.

It looks like the kernel could be the issue with the USB drives as they rely on frandon and that doesn't work with this kernel

RE: Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix - ilgrank - 1st Jul, 2013 11:02 PM

Iridium: if you had took the time to read my post first, you would have found that I was asking if the SMB issue had been recognized/addressed in the Hotfix...

RE: Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix - mk01 - 1st Jul, 2013 11:14 PM

you are first who reported. try to answer the questions I asked.

RE: Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix - IriDium - 1st Jul, 2013 11:20 PM

If I didn't read your post - and I am a lot more polite - I wouldn't have known what you were talking about.

As far as I am concerned, and nothing contrary to that, shows that there is a problem with the SMB mounting (via the GUI at least), then I can't see that it is an issue in this release.

If you would care to install the Hotfix following precisely the instructions at the top, then we are all working on common ground and any errors you may receive can be checked with log files and messages.

RE: Advanced users only: Beta 1 Hotfix - ilgrank - 1st Jul, 2013 11:37 PM

@IriDium: Sorry if I sounded unpolite, that was not my intention.
What I wanted to say is that I've encountered the error in the un-hotfixed B1 and just wanted to know if someone else, besides me, was aware of the issue.

@mk01: I've already stated that I'm at office right now and can't do it from here... I'll comply as soon as I can of course

Thanks everyone!
