My apologies. I'm running on Beta 2. The external hard drive is a 1TB WD Passport formatted to exFAT. My Xbian install is fairly new (installed this morning). I have it running of a USB flash drive with the SD. The external drive is recognized when I plug it into my windows 8 computer, but when I plug it into the pi it doesn't mount.

RE: USB Harddrive Not Mounting
Ok, thanks, now we have the information.

1) How is the HDD powered? It will need a powered HUB to function. It CANNOT be powered from the RPi.
2) Please supply the output from dmesg
3) How did you install Xbian onto the USB?

Please read before you post

Still having the same issues. The hard drive was able to mount once. When I restarted it, it went away and won't mount again. I have it set to a static location using the method from this guide.

all is correct there. we can try loggin usbmount process. edit /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf, set VERBOSE=1

RE: USB Harddrive Not Mounting
You are getting some weird USB error messages.

[ 40.155158] usb 1-1.3.4.1: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[ 40.345054] usb 1-1.3.4.1: new high-speed USB device number 9 using dwc_otg
[ 45.764753] usb 1-1.3.4.1: device not accepting address 9, error -71
[ 45.845293] usb 1-1.3.4.1: new high-speed USB device number 10 using dwc_otg
[ 51.264949] usb 1-1.3.4.1: device not accepting address 10, error –71
[ 401.544498] usb 1-1.3.4.1: Product: My Passport 0730

Which all relate to the WD

These could be due to a suspect hub. Do you have a spare that you could try?

What is the amperage of your RPi power supply?

You could try removing the HUB and plugging your KB and WD directly into the RPi – it might work just for testing.
