Music Two output audio
Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to enable audio through both HDMI and the jack at the same time?
This would be great since i use xbian as an airplay server to my stereo.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Best regards

RE: Two output audio
Yes, with beta 1.1 onwards IIRC.

But the analog out from the pi is not very good (it's limited to 10 bit) - so if possible use the hdmi. - I have sourced a hdmi to analog DAC that works well and gives quality indsitinguishible from CD on my B&W speakers.

That sounds great! Do you know when beta 1.1 be available for download?
I have purchased a HiFiBerry DAC which gives me great sound @ 24bit on my B&W speakers as well :-)

Well, beta 2 is the current version and so I suggest you start with that one and see how it goes.

24bit 192KHz, now that's rocking! :-)

RE: Two output audio
in XBMC click 'system' and then in that page also click on 'system' (it's near the bottom).

Then 'Audio output' and on the top right hand pane you will see audio output where there's a way to select either HDMI, analog or both.

RE: Two output audio
Yes you are right there!

I just checked, they must have changed it.

A little further down on the page is a selector button for 'dual audio output' - I suggest you try that and see what happens.

Damn, i must be blind, haha! I'll check it out.
What will happen if i add a DAC through the I2S pins and enable the kernel modules. Will it output audio through those too?
Thanks for feedback.

That one I can't answer as I never tried and don't have anything to test it with!

You can only try!

RE: Two output audio
Well, the drivers for the HiFiBerry isn't included in the current kernel that comes with xbian. From kernel 3.10.23 the drivers are included.

But i don't know if it will work if i update the kernel and enable the modules. I will try it out.

@Phillez

in case of high demand I can add snd-soc-rpi-dac to 1.3-6 bundle (3.10.23).

otherwise is by default included in 3.12.y (kernel bundle 1.3-8.x).

That would be great! Is it possible to update to a newer kernel bundle without breaking the system?

RE: Two output audio
3.12.y is still under testing without big mileage but so far no surprises.

and yes it is safe, dpkg/apt won't allow you to break dependencies. for this kernels you would need to upgrade xbian-package-initramfs-tools and xbian-package-config-shell too. those two are also in devel but there were no big changes or new functions. mostly bugfixes.

in worst case you will just downgrade those three packages back.
