I just tested mine and it was drawing around 400ma at peak rate - way more than the RPi can give, so it could be lowering performance! Just a thought.

hi IriDium, wifi dongle is in the RPi as it was on beta 1.1, with the RPi plugged into the TV USB port. like i said before, 1.1 on this setup worked great.

I have a powered USB Hub and will try that later

Thanks -
A television generally puts out 500 milliamp, the Pi needs 1Amp.

xbian-xbmc-bridge is stopped - is that correct?

So is ssh but it's possible to ssh in - have we changed the service and nt updated xbmc xbian-config?

xbmc xbian-config now takes about 5 minutes to complete - spends most of it's time on updating services. Also the progress bar doesn't work anymore.

will check it, changed something in config and probably broke config-xbmc.

the updating xbian-update story - I was going through the command xbmc-config is issuing to shell-config and was able to upgrade it Undecided

we are missing something there, but Belese confirmed xbmc-config holds no cache for this and shell-config's cache around updates is store in /tmp which gets emptied upon restart.

but we will find it …

(10th Sep, 2013 07:17 PM)Airwolfuk Wrote: [ -> ]so rtl to answer your question

I think it has something to do with power even though on beta 1.1 i used the same method (TV USB) and got better performance.

please edit /etc/sysctl.d/xbian.conf and put a # at the start of all lines starting "net."

I was shortening some timeouts, if the wifi would be slower (from whatever reason) this theoretically could make it even worse - if packets would come later, with shorter lifetimes kernel could (instead of waiting) just close the connection what from user / program perspective could show much more slower transfers.

try it.

hi mk01 - edited out as directed but didn't notice any difference.

I do have real issues with xbian config in XBMC with wifi scanning and changing anything in the network area causes XBMC to sometimes (mostly) crash to the command prompt. I do not have any issues using xbian-config direct.

I'll keep looking and trying different things.

Question - is there anything/ recommendations for tweaks in advancedsettings?

can you post your /run/upstart-ev.log ?

Before posting the log... Sometimes I mount NFS by ssh to copy files to/from my PC. When running the command it takes longer than in beta 1 to execute ( mount -t nfs 192.168.1.3:/shareddirectory /media/NFS )

there are some essentials for NFS which are making NFS possible and/or making some action take long or less. beta2 tries to adapt automatically, on boot rpcbind is started - always.

then /etc/fstab is reviewed for NFS or NFS4 mounts. if NFS is present, statd is started (provides remote locking), if NFS4 is found, idmapd and gssd is started.

if no NFS/NFS4 is in fstab, on first mount of NFS, statd will be started. for NFS4 idmapd nor gssd is essential, but mount will take longer.

this is the default.

if you want to force loading of any of statd, idmapd, gssd, edit /etc/default/nfs-common accordingly. Yes or No respectively will be fully recognized during start and forced.

my ups.log is (it's with PVR server, two ext usb disks, DVBT receiver and four network mounts - but default skin and shared DBs from MySQL extern):

this is standard behavior of beta2. it is turning off the TV 5 minutes after XBMC started screensaver. you can edit the delay or turn it off / on by editing /etc/default/xbmc file. its like on normal PC. screensaver first, then power off.

cec-config was removed from upstream (from developer - the company which the CEC interface is building for raspberry).

very very strange. can you turn on debug logging and send xbmc.log after the crash ?
Thanks mk01 for nothing, I'm afraid you are late... If you change the behaviour of screensaver then power off you should say it. I've spent a lot of time trying to solve it and proving to give you as many information as possible in case it was a bug :-(

first of all update your system. I see on the output it's at least one day old. 34,5 sec is not 40s. or it has already changed as I was explaining that it will happen? - it's is interesting with btrfs. you can disable lirc loading if don't need it.

definitely it will be in release notes to beta2 when launched and you probably missed the info as I was already communicating this as part of things to check / test. it is not a change, it is completely new feature (for TV on HDMI with working CEC, not working on DVI attached screens).

and anonimo, you know it. "who is not going to ask - is not going to be told". nobody is going to blame you for legitimate questions - specially with system we are just testing.
In any case it should be included in the Peripherals menu. I don't find it usefull at all.
And as a new feature (and quite important as far as it affects the TV behaviour too) you should have told us about it. And no, I've not missed the info. I looked in the post and there was no info about that.

https://github.com/xbianonpi/xbian/issues/346

it's your turn to burn your own 65+ plasma screen out.

if you make the peripherals settings finally working with CEC and XBMC as it was meant, please commit it to the Company providing CEC sources and XBMC. community will really appreciate it.
Hi,

i tested the new version and i'm glad that you fixed so many bugs.

Airplay is working really good and fast, automount of Exfat formated HDD's is working too (something that NEVER worked for me in any Xbian Version before). Playback of videos does not crash anymore, when switching audio stream.

There is one strange bug i always had and it is still there:
When pausing a video file or stream for more than a minute, the stream will crash OR Xbian will unmount all external drives. It doesn't matter how the drive is partitioned, or which filesystem, USB Stick or USB HDD. All drives are unmounted and mounted again after 5 seconds when pausing videos for more than a minute. o.O It happens only sometimes. There is no USB device attached to the raspberry which consumes to much power.

Thank you for all the efforts!
Not in this post, right?
And no, it'll not happen because from now ahead I'm going to stick to the final version, no more betas. I'm one of the "lucky" guys who voided the Pi warranty because of you including overvoltage without force_turbo=0 in config.txt. I can play with a 40$ toy but not with my 35" LCD screen...
@anonimo

as a general warranty info:

Code:
Forcing the Turbo Mode together with OverVoltag will set the Sticky Bit.
OR
Disabling the current limit together with overvoltage will set the Sticky Bit.
OR
Increasing the Templimit over 85°C together with overvoltage will set the Sticky Bit.

and general XBian info
Code:
XBian never ever set over_voltage by installing public IMG file, nor with performing update, nor with any other automated workflow.

this sound really really strange. I can assure you, xbian as a system under XBMC is not doing that - only in case of kernel notification of removed device - but you are assuring this is not the case.

I don't lot of options then - XBMC has the right to do it - you can edit
Code:
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks.policy

by editing
Code:
<action id="org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-unmount-others">

Putting NO to <allow_any>. This will make XBMC not able to unmount drive. Then set sysklogd service to enabled and set VERBOSE=yes in /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf . this will make debug logging to /var/log/user.log …

when the action happens, check in that log. and dmesg | tail.

I know, everything points to a power problem but believe me my setup worked great on 1.1

I'll am going to go through a clean install of 1.1 and then 1.2 again just to make sure i am not going crazy......

thanks -
don't bother. it will not be a difference. maybe later I will take beta1.1 kernel, rebuild it to fake as beta2 and will post link for you to download .deb. you will try it. and we will see if it is kernel module.

but I'm still hoping for your neighbor to turn off the jamming signal device Wink
1) Just tried to install the xbian repository https://github.com/xbianonpi/xbian-xbmc-repository and it does not have the correct structure.

2) ssh in - message appears
Terminal
8 packages can be updated.
0 updates are security updates.
but nothing is available in xbmc xbian-config.
ssh xbian-config shows 7 not 8 packages available.
I guess it's because xbian-package-kernel-headers is suggested

3) XBMC xbian-config seems to be taking longer and longer to complete, spends most of it's time maxed out on disk writes. Admittedly, this is a USB boot machine.

4) Latest upgrade from ssh xbian-config - errored with xbian-package-upstart-xbian-bridge.
