I did a fresh alpha 5 install and then:
However, I get:
$ alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory
In alpha 4 alsamixer was working flawless.
Some info from dmesg:
$ dmesg | grep ALSA

[ 11.462020] bcm2835 ALSA chip created!

This seems all fine. I used my raspberry with alsa in combination with mpd as a music server. In alpha 4 that worked fine.
Best!
Terminal
sudo apt-get install alsa-utils

We have changed nothing that would prevent you from using alsa.

I can only speak from my own experience and that is a fluid A5. Can you post the system load in idle situation from top?

It should be under System => Settings => Add-ons => Activate addons => services => Artwork Downloader
I think without it you wouldn't see any fanart at all. So it should be there and you should be able to configure the resolution.
But I only use XBMC since about 2months, so I could be wrong and there is another method

yes, this is wrong
you dont need any extra addon to scrape media informations.
All you need to do is when you add your source and you go to scan media into library you have to chose right scraper for download
for more info read Video library/Setting content and scanning
and more reading about Scrapers

There's nothing wrong with the scraper. It's just that the fan art is low quality, which was high in 1a4. Now that I think about it, the background isn't loaded at all, or is that only with movies?

hmm, not sure what are your settings but all is working just fine here. I have 1920*1080 out and all scraping just fine with fanarts etc under Movies
keep in mind that this is different than if you go to Videos>Files
many people get confused here
so you should have hi-res fanart under Movies and low-res under Video>files
can you confirm please ?

Videos > Files: shows no fan art.
Movies: Low quality fan art.
TV Shows: Low quality fan art.
This problem did not occur with 1a4. It does with 1a5.

Alpha 5 here, all good
weird..and you have nothing suspicious in logs ?
to be honest, not sure what may causing this..maybe your network connection ? what scraper did you use to scan your media with ?
