If anyone else is having this issue, the following worked for me (thanks):
Terminal

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
Then change the following line to:
Terminal

gpu_mem_256=64
Reboot
Terminal

sudo apt-get upgrade
change back to
Terminal

gpu_mem_256=128
And Reboot - Hopefully this will only be a temp workaround?

after updating from 1.1 to Beta 2 I cannot access xbian-config from within the gui any longer (works via SSH). The loading screen of xbian config crashes exactly at 28% (I think it says "reading packages" before crashing). Any ideas?

Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with Beta2. Really improved performance!

Cheers,

I have exactly the same issue. I posted the log earlier in this thread but then read the comments that this should be done via pastebin. I still have to do that.

When I hit stop and then resume where it left off there is no issue. I did not have such problems with beta 1.1. I did a clean install because upgrading didn't work.

I experienced this too today. The video stutter/audio lag doesn't occur right after going from pause to resume but several minutes later. however it's not a huge bug as it only happens one time and only for approx. 2-4 seconds. That's just the behavior for my setup. It may be different for someone else

And of course there are no logs because it is a hang.

@iser

can you provide output of
Code:
dpkg-query -W 'xbian*'

Sorry, but i'be reverted changes back, because RPI went completely unusable Confused
Hi, I have a problem with accented letters.
If in XBMC i try to copy/move a file with accented letters, the operation fails.
No problem with other file.
For complete information I have an USB2 hard disk with ext3.

I tried ssh too and when I type 'ls' appears '??' instead of an accented letter.

Can You help me?

Thanks Smile

Guys, my xbian 2 Beta is in big s*** Sad
When ever I try to play any video my TV screen blinks, then turns black with an error message that the resolution is not supported.
At first I thought that it is a problem of my TV (Samsung LE40C630), but then I tried my older xbian (xbian 1.1 beta on a different SD) and there the videos worked.
Did any of you experience the same problem, or I'm the only one?
Where should I look for an error?
Hello xbian,

thank you for this great release! This realy rocks!
However i have one issue: When i start my pi without a LAN cable plugged in (which is my main scenario) the start sequence hangs at "starting xmbc...". The progres bar keeps moving for over a minute then the screen switches to black and shows "xbian login:". After waiting for another 20sec "starting xbmc..." appears again and after a few seconds xbmc is started and works without any problems. If a LAN cable is plugged in the start sequence works without any problems. My system is a clean installation of xbian.beta2.2013-11-16rs.img with win32diskimager.
Can anybody confirm this issue? Or even has a solution/workaround?

The issue seems to be related to these posts

Regards, Sam

-----------------------------
Additional info
I did some testing and can reproduce the issue (at least on my system) with these steps:
1. clean installation of xbian.beta2.2013-11-16rs.img with win32diskimager
2. insert SD card in pi an watch the setup to its job
3. xbmc is started
If you leave xbmc by powering off your pi it will start without any problems next time.
4. Power on your pi. Xbmc starts without any problems.
5. Exit xbmc by selecting "Power off System". Screen switches to black with "xbian login:". Power off your pi.
6. Power on your pi. Xbmc starts without any problems.
7. Now select "Power off System" again. But this time a progressbar appears and shows "shutting down..." and finally "system halted."
8. From this moment on the described issue appears

Need a file with accented chars and try in bash 'ls' 'cp'...
or in XBMC from menu system->file... try copy the file
Have you changed your locale?

I think this has something to do with your ssh client. How are you "ssh"ing into your RPi.

i changed locale (added it UTF8 and setted it as default)
also changed keyboard layout as italian

My ssh client is SmarTTY in windows 8
and terminal in xubuntu
same problem both.

I added 'set convert-meta off' file /etc/inputrc
because I couldn't type accented char and searched in google a possible solution and the result is: I can type accented char but I can't read it.
But I can't copy, move ecc files Sad

EDIT: 'set convert-meta off' cause strange effect in ssh client so i deleted it from /etc/inputrc

If someone has a solution, please tell me. Smile
@sam397
Xbian really does need a network connection - especially for the time.

By not having a system clock files will be written with a 1970 date which will confuse sort programs or thers which rely on timestamps.

I have a feeling this "issue" is caused by ntp failing which triggers Xbmc to stop - or something like this.
Can you go into xbian-config and set the service ntp to stop and not restart. Reboot and see if that improves things.

Alao can you post the output from dmesg.

OK I think I can replicate the error.

I can create a file called "hello" which contains "Proprietà" and it shows up correctly, however
if I try to change that filename to Proprietà all I get is Propriet [with spaces instead of à]

Looking at the locales, Italian is setup for XBMC but not Xbian.

You could try generating the correct locale with
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
selecting it_IT.UTF-8, choose as default and then reboot

It might work but I have a feeling it might not as I'm sure most European characters are included in the defaut locale.

I already used that command for change locale to my language.
The strange thing is I tried to insert a sd card with Raspbian and there is no problem.
Sad
Some strange things that started happening to me after a reboot last night (last updated on November 21 and 22, see detailed list at the end of this post).
  • sudo suddenly stopped working (I was trying sudo apt-get upate && sudo apt-get upgrade after the reboot) - output:
    Code:
    sudo: effective uid is not 0, is sudo installed setuid root?
  • when trying to change to the root user using su - output:
    Code:
    setgid: Operation not permitted
  • when trying to create a file - output:
    Code:
    touch: cannot touch `/home/xbian/<filename>': No space left on device
  • when trying to delete a file - output:
    Code:
    rm: cannot remove `<filename>': No space left on device
  • when trying to use TAB for auto-completing a a path - output:
    Code:
    bash: cannot create temp file for here-document: No space left on device

There should be plenty of space left, df -h output:

Code:
Filesystem      Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
rootfs          7.4G  4.9G  2.5G  67% /
/dev/mmcblk0p2  7.4G  4.9G  2.5G  67% /
devtmpfs        125M  4.0K  125M   1% /dev
none             25M  464K   25M   2% /run
/dev/mmcblk0p1   34M   19M   16M  55% /boot
/dev/mmcblk0p2  7.4G  4.9G  2.5G  67% /home
/dev/mmcblk0p2  7.4G  4.9G  2.5G  67% /lib/modules

Google pointed me at this it being an inode issue, but df -i shows nothing to that effect:

Code:
Filesystem     Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
rootfs              0     0     0     - /
/dev/mmcblk0p2      0     0     0     - /
devtmpfs        31751   248 31503    1% /dev
none            31767   195 31572    1% /run
/dev/mmcblk0p1      0     0     0     - /boot
/dev/mmcblk0p2      0     0     0     - /home
/dev/mmcblk0p2      0     0     0     - /lib/modules

XBMC also will not start any longer and gets stuck at "configuring network" and eventually crashes (it did start once after the first reboot, but crashed after a few seconds; after a power-cycle, as I could neither reboot or start xbmc from the shell, because sudo wouldn't work)

Any advice? I have a backup of ~/.xbmc that should be recent enough, but I'd like to keep my various settings I made throughout the system (BTSync, all the progams in the downloads package, my DynDNS service, etc.) and unfortunately haven't gotten around to making a system-backup yet. Undecided

I don't think it is a good idea to release a modded Amber skin because you have to update it everytime the Amber skin is updated.
Is it possible to run XBian-Config as an addon in just any skin? Because now I do not have XBian Config in XBMC Sad

@zilexa

@belese is looking for a solution how to do that.

On XBian add-on repo, both versions are available. modded and upstream. upstream (original) is also faster now as the last modded version from @Fred is version 0.4.x (I suppose) and since then Amber was much more optimized (current version is 1.2.5 or something).

@CurlyMo

can you please list the packages? what was confirmed in b2 test thread was considered stable and moved to new repository - if you provide list of bugged packages I can compare if all was moved with the correct version.

of course let's exclude packages with NEW bugs found after release.

changes to packages AFTER testing period were limited to control file(s) to help with the dependencies problems during upgrades from Alpha5 release and xbian-update change (noatime rootfs remount fstab record), which unfortunately caused the "smb mounts removal" bug from the past to reappear.

other changes / fixes / new functions implemented in packages after B2 test are all placed in devel repo.

if there are other bugs please report (best) at github.

I couldn't get the thing to boot to get a dmesg.

@calisro

can you provide archived (zip, rar, tar.gz) /boot partition (accessed from win / linux / other pc) after you fail to boot? would be interesting to look at.

isn't it possible the apt (dpkg) process during your apt-get upgrade run fails? (as few reports with dpkg being killed during OOM situation on 256MB models?)
